 Early Pre-Twinkle Songs/Rhymes

 Pre-Twinkle Bowing Poem

Up like a rocket,
Down like the rain,
Back & forth like a choo-choo train!
Round and round like a happy sun,
Up on your head...
Pinky and Thumb!

The Monkey Song
(A Major Scale to Miss. Hot Dog rhythm)

I'm a little monkey,
Climbing up the ladder,
Climbing up the tree to,
Eat a pink banana!
Gabrielle added the following verse:
And a dish of ice cream! (4th finger)

Various Lyrics for Lightly Row

Lightly Row

Lightly Row, lightly row,
O'er the shining waves we go!
Smoothly glide, smoothly glide,
on the silent changing tide.

Let the winds and waters be,
still and calm and clear to see.
Drift and float we, drift and float in-,
side our little sailing boat.

new edited version by Lisa Miles

 Lightly Snow

Lightly snow, lightly snow,
O'er the fluffy hills we go.
Lightly snowing, lightly blowing,
On my little sled we go.

Listen to the children play,
Laughing, sledding through the day.
Lightly snowing, lightly blowing,
On my little sled we go.

Parts of the Violin Song for pre-twinklers

This is my violin,
This is where I put my chin, E A D G are the four strings,
And the "F" holes let it ring.

Here's the front and here's the back,
If I drop it, it might crack!
So I hold it close beside me,
Rest position you now see.

Button here, tailpeice there,
Bridge and fingerboard right here.
Pegs help keep my string in tune [the]
peg box holds the pegs so firm.

Mr. Scroll is dressed his best,
Looking down on all the rest.
Here's the bow and now I'll show [a
play] postion, 1 2 3.

original version copyright 1985, Susan Kempter [with new words by Lisa Miles that fit the rhythm better]

Twinkle and Beyond!

Alaskan Twinkle

 Twinkle, twinkle little light,
sparkling in the arctic night.
Up above the clouds so high,
Blue-green ribbons in the sky.
Twinkle, twinkle Northern Lights,
shimmer in my dreams tonight.

Twinkle twinkle little star,
how I wonder what you are.
Up above the world so high,
like a diamond in the sky.
Twinkle twinkle little star,
how I wonder what you are!

Go Tell Aunt Rhody
the folk version is a little like this:

Go Tell Aunt Rhody,
Go tell Rhody,
Go tell Aunt Rhody,
Old grey goose is dead!

Died in the mill pond
died in the mill pond
died in the mill pond
On her head!

Go tell Aunt Rhody,
Go tell Aunt Rhody,
Go tell Aunt Rhody,
Old grey goose is dead

Song of the Wind

A time to play Song of the Wind,
swirling through the trees,
swirling through the trees,
leaves are falling,
leaves are falling,
falling tumbling 'round and 'round.
Leaves are falling,
leaves are falling,
falling to the ground.

by Lisa Miles
The first word "A" is also the first note. The fingers fall in pitch with the words  and the swirls and round and round words are to remind children of how their bow should move.

Oh Come, Little Children

O come, little children,
O come, one and all.
All join hands together,
Both big ones and small.
For peace in our lifetime,
We offer this plea,
For peoples together,
For you and for me.

~ Sally Wood

May Song, for Juneau, Alaska

Spring is here the cruise ships appear
hear the horns they're blowing.
See the people shop till they drop,
in their buses and helicops.
Spring is here the cruise ships appear
hear the horns they're blowing.

~ Lisa Miles

May Song, for Earth Day: Boise, Idaho

Spring is here the birds are near,
Listen to their singing.
Please don't liter our Mother Earth
Gather children, sing of her worth.
Spring is here the birds are near,
Plant a tree for singing.

~ by Lisa Miles and student Karen Guillory

Long long Ago

Tell me the tales that to me were so dear
Long long ago, long long ago;
Sing me the songs I delighted to hear,
Long long ago, long ago.

Now that you're here, I'm not feeling so sad,
Let me forget, that I missed you so bad.
Sing me the songs I delighted to hear,
Long long ago, long ago.

~ original by Bayly; re-written by Lisa Miles
